CHAPTER IV
METHODOLOGY
Research Design (change to past tense already, since the research is already done)
In this study we will use quantitative research design. This design is suitable in this research because we aim to determine the relationship between the two variables; the independent variable which is the Facebook usage of an individual and the dependent variable which is the duration of the romantic relationship. The main objective is to know whether Facebook contributes to the lasting or ending a relationship between those who are engage on romantic relationships of the University of the Philippines Cebu College computer science students. This also identifies specific elements of Facebook that will strengthen or weakens romantic relationships.(so what is a descriptive design? Define. Not about your objective)
Sampling Procedure
In this study we will use non-probability sampling technique. This sampling technique involves gathering of samples that will not give all the individuals of the population the chances of being selected.
Purposive sampling technique which is under non-probability will be used in this study. Purposive sampling is the method which excludes individuals that do not meet the requirement to be part of the study. For example, in our study only Computer science students in University of the Philippines Cebu College who are into romantic relationship in the past or at the present will be included in the study.
Research Participants

The respondents will be Computer Science students in the University of the Philippines Cebu College who are engage(d) in romantic relationship in the past or at the present. This study will involve 5 (five) Computer Science students per year level that will have a total of 20 Computer Science students. We chose Computer Science students only because these students are more prone (awkward) in using the computer. On that basis, we assume that Computer Science students are always using the internet that includes Social Networking Sites such as Facebook. We decided that we will have respondents from each year level in order to know how will the age and the levels of experience from each students varies and affects their attitude towards Facebook.
Research Instruments
In order to determine whether Facebook contributes to the lasting or ending romantic relationships, we will conduct a survey with a propositioned (huh?) to be distributed to the respondents. The questionnaire will be divided into four parts. The first part will be the personal information; the second part will include the respondents’ behavior towards Facebook; the third part will focus on the effects of Facebook to romantic relationships; the fourth part will be the overall follow-up question on the effects of Facebook towards romantic relationships.
The first part will solely ask the respondents’ personal background that includes age, gender and current relationship status. The second part will ask the respondents on how much time they spent in communicating with their romantic partners through Facebook. The third part will ask on how the elements of Facebook such as photo sharing, wall posts/comments, instant messaging, and status updates affect the romantic relationship of the respondents. The fourth part will ask if constant communication through Facebook strengthens or destroys past or present romantic relationship of the University of the Philippines Cebu College computer science students. (modify/give synonym to the word for variation. Give transition)
Data Collection
The researchers will distribute the questionnaires to the University of the Philippines Cebu College computer science students who are involved in romantic relationship. Each of the respondents will be asked to answer with accurate information. When they accomplish what we have ask (have asked), we will gather those questionnaires we have given to the respondents to enable (direct please. Remove to enable) to validate the results. The questionnaires gathered will contain the data needed for this study. The data we gathered will be properly examined, analyzed and interpreted. (obvious.remove the last 2 sentences.time frame?)
Data Analysis
Data gathered from the respondents will be converted into numerical equivalents by using different equations and formulas (no word as formulas) that will suit it best (awkward). The resulting numerical figures will then be interpreted thru graphical representation.
1. In order to determine the profile of the respondents in terms of their age and relationship status, as well as their number of hours in using Facebook in a weekly basis, the formula for determining the percentage will be used:

Where:
P = Percentage
F = the number of respondents on a particular answer
N = total number of respondents
2. To have the right interpretation on the contribution of Facebook elements on the respondents’ romantic relationship, the formula for weighted mean will be used:

Where:

F(X) = the number of respondents who answered a particular choice times itscorresponding weight.
N = total number of respondents.
