Chapter 4 comments
1. The researcher analyzed the study using a quantitative approach using the survey questionnaire. Based on the answered questionnaire the responses would provide a summary of the respondent’s view towards homosexuality. Using the said results, they used a frequency distribution table (frequency/total number of respondents x 100 = %). By having the percentage of frequency from the answers of the questionnaire, they acquired the respondents’ choices. (make it more systematic and specific)
2. The rest were good!
Chapter IV
Methodology
Research Design
The researchers used the descriptive method in illustrating their respondents’ profile and on how these factors affect on the researchers’ study. Furthermore, they also used an explanatory research to determine the views of the 4th year college students of the University of the Philippines Cebu towards Homosexuality.
Using a survey questionnaire to be answered by the said individuals, the researchers gathered information on how the individual’s family background, religion, course and high school background may affect one’s view towards homosexuality. This also aided the researchers in analyzing on how the individuals react to matters like same sex marriage, cross dressing and public display of affection between homosexuals.
Sampling Procedure
The researchers applied the non-probability sampling, in which not everyone is given the chance to answer the questionnaire. Particularly the convenience sampling was used by letting the respondents who are available in a certain area and time answer the questionnaire. A specific number of questionnaires (80 questionnaires) were answered by 4th year college students of UP Cebu from each course, which was distributed randomly inside the university.
Respondents
The research respondents comprise the undergraduate 4th year college students of the University of the Philippines Cebu. With a total population of 276 4th year students (Second Semester A.Y. 2010-2011), only 80 students (approximately 29% of the 4th year student population) were able to answer each survey questionnaire. The questionnaires were given to only 10 students of each course (Biology, Computer Science, Fine Arts, Management, Mass Communication, Mathematics, Political Science and Psychology). The participation of the respondents was indeed vital for the completion of the study.
Research Instrument
In order for the researchers to gather the needed information for the study, the researchers chose to use a survey questionnaire that enabled the researchers to determine the 4th year UP Cebu students’ views on homosexuality. The questionnaire consisted of questions regarding the respondents’ family, religion and educational backgrounds. Moreover, it also consisted of specific issues and activities that would test the respondents’ response to it.
The questionnaire contained thirty closed-ended questions, one open-ended question and two contingency questions. There were two parts in the questionnaires: 1. Personal Information and 2. Level of awareness and acceptance towards homosexuality. The second part of the questionnaire was also subdivided into three sections: a. social interaction, b. homosexual relationships, and c. Relationship with family and friends.
The format which was used was the general format where respondents just check the blank or the certain column which would correspond to their answer. The process of the handing out the questionnaire was face-to-face since the researchers were also studying at the University of the Philippines Cebu.
Data Collection
The gathering of data was done through the usage of the survey questionnaire that was handed out to the respondents. The area of data collection was performed inside the University of the Philippines Cebu within the given allotted time of one week. The researchers must gather all the needed information within the particular area and time.
Data Analysis
The researcher analyzed the study using a quantitative approach using the survey questionnaire. Based on the answered questionnaire the responses would provide a summary of the respondent’s view towards homosexuality. Using the said results, they used a frequency distribution table (frequency/total number of respondents x 100 = %). By having the percentage of frequency from the answers of the questionnaire, they acquired the respondents’ choices.
