pimentel, quijada chapter 4

Chapter 4 comments
1. The researchers will not directly give the questionnaire to answer, instead, ask the selected participants if they meet our study’s criteria, a freshmen student, and who has Facebook access in their home. (entries in chapter 4 should be in past tense)
2. These respondents are chosen because their participation is greatly applicable to this study especially that Facebook is becoming a trend today.(reason should more on how adept people in this age are to facebook)
3. that the numbers will be checked depending with (on) its interpretations
4. The (omit) Part III gives the information of how long the respondent
5. The data collected from the survey questionnaires were treated using the following statistical procedures:
In Part I and Part IV of the questionnaire, researchers tally the number of respondents who chose the highest possible choice (e.g. Strongly agree and Always) and rank each situations to determine the first common reason of using Facebook and the number one effect of Facebook.

Another formula will be used in Part II of the Questionnaire:
R/NRank =
= summation; N = Number of RespondentsWhere
R = Rank

Lastly, researchers use the percentage formula for the 3rd part:
percentage = F/N x 100
Where F = Frequency; N = Number of Respondents
(this should be in Data Analysis. Data collection contains how you administered the survey and time frame given)
6. This study applied the quantitative approach for the use of survey questionnaire. The researchers use this approach because it can cover huge number of respondents. The researchers analyze the data based on the numerical findings as results from the questionnaires. The data will be analyzed by thorough observation and gathering of data done by the researchers. The data collected will be organized through tables for easy interpretation of data. (vague/generalized data analysis.transfer what you wrote in data collection here)

Research Methodology

Research Design

This study makes use of the descriptive method of research. This method gives truthful findings and interpretation of data presented. This method describes students’ behaviors in their studies in effect with using Facebook. From this method, we will be applying the explanatory research technique, which will be focusing on the relationship between two variables, that is, Facebook and studies. The researchers employ the descriptive method since it describes the conditions at the period of time when this research was conducted.

Sampling Procedure

Generally, most researchers prefer probability-sampling method. Some say this is more accurate than nonprobability. But there are cases that probability sampling method is not at all times feasible. Therefore in this study, the researchers use the nonprobability sampling method as sampling procedure. Under this nonprobability sampling method, purposive sampling is used because the respondents have to meet up with certain criteria that fall under this study. Under purposive sampling, the researchers use the snowball sampling wherein random people under UP Cebu freshmen students will be selected. The researchers will not directly give the questionnaire to answer, instead, ask the selected participants if they meet our study’s criteria, a freshmen student, and who has Facebook access in their home.

Respondents

To know how the frequency of using Facebook affects the studies of UP Cebu freshmen students, a total of 60 freshmen students are asked to participate. These respondents are chosen because their participation is greatly applicable to this study especially that Facebook is becoming a trend today.

Research Instruments

The research instrument used in this study is a survey questionnaire. To identify the frequency in using Facebook among UP Cebu Freshmen students and its effects on their studies, the researchers devise a survey questionnaire in which the respondents answer by checking the options that parallel their responses. The results of the survey questionnaire will be tallied and tabulated and will be analyzed to come up with a conclusion. There are four parts in the questionnaire. Part I determines the respondent’s reasons in using Facebook. The researchers have provided choices to be answered in a tabulated form such that the numbers will be checked depending with its interpretations: 5 - Strongly Agree, 4 – Agree, 3 – Undecided, 2 – Disagree, and 1 – Strongly Disagree. In Part II of the questionnaire, six Facebook features are to be ranked by the respondents depending on the most used feature to the least. The Part III gives the information of how long the respondent spends time in using Facebook in daily basis or in weekly basis. The last part of the questionnaire determines if Facebook has affected the respondents, especially in terms of their academic performance. Likewise in part two, set of situations or choices in Part IV is already presented in a tabulated form with the intensity of answers using Always, Sometimes, Seldom or Never.

Data Collection

The data collected from the survey questionnaires were treated using the following statistical procedures:
In Part I and Part IV of the questionnaire, researchers tally the number of respondents who chose the highest possible choice (e.g. Strongly agree and Always) and rank each situations to determine the first common reason of using Facebook and the number one effect of Facebook.

Another formula will be used in Part II of the Questionnaire:
Rank = R/N
Where  = summation; N = Number of Respondents
R = Rank

Lastly, researchers use the percentage formula for the 3rd part:
percentage = F/N x 100
Where F = Frequency; N = Number of Respondents

Data Analysis

This study applied the quantitative approach for the use of survey questionnaire. The researchers use this approach because it can cover huge number of respondents. The researchers analyze the data based on the numerical findings as results from the questionnaires. The data will be analyzed by thorough observation and gathering of data done by the researchers. The data collected will be organized through tables for easy interpretation of data.
